The Minor Injury and Illness Unit (MIIU) is continuing to operate from Brechin Health Centre, after the move was proven “successful”.

NHS Tayside announced in July that the unit would be moving from Brechin Infirmary next door to Brechin Health Centre.

In a community update announcing the initial move in the summer, it was outlined that the move was to be temporary, and last until the end of August.

The update said: “There are benefits in co-locating MIIU services and staff within the health centre and it means there will be a strengthened healthcare team over this challenging period for staffing.”

A further update in October revealed the move had been extended to November, citing positive feedback from patients about the move.

It seems the move will be continuing for the time being, as a result of the success.

A spokesperson for NHS Tayside said last week: “The Minor Injury and Illness Unit continues to be delivered from Brechin Health Centre.

“This has proven to be very successful from a patient and staff perspective and has improved team work and sharing of expertise and knowledge.”

Access to the minor illness and injury unit is through a separate entrance in the grounds of Brechin Infirmary to the upper level of the health centre.

It can also be accessed through the main entrance to the health centre when the centre is open. The service is open daily from 9am to 4.30pm.
