AN INAUGURAL meeting has been held in Edzell Health Centre to explore local interest in a Patient Participation Group within the practice.
At the meeting Dave Davidson, Local Officer for the Scottish Health Council, Tayside, gave an overview of Patient Participation Groups and the important role they play in providing a communication forum for patients and general practice staff to discuss areas for improvement or development locally.
Public members who attended spent time discussing some of the issues which they may wish to see discussed at future meetings. It was agreed that the next meeting would start with a short presentation about the general practice contract to help people understand the context in which the general practice has to work. Members were also keen to discuss house visiting policy and dementia services at the next meeting.
Edzell GP Dr Marc Jacobs said: “We are keen to continuously improve the services we deliver in the practice and we believe the development of a Patient Participation Group will help us to do this.
“In addition to the general practice team, a range of visiting services are delivered within Edzell Health Centre and the Patient Participation Group has the potential to influence healthcare provision in its broadest sense in the area.”
The next meeting has been arranged for Tuesday, June 11 at 6 p.m., in Edzell Health Centre, with a warm welcome extended to any patient registered with the practice wishing to become involved, or find out more.
