A Freephone service has been launched for Tayside musculoskeletal patients to allow them to be referred directly to hospital services without the need for a GP consultation.
The new Musculoskeletal Advice and Triage Service (MATS) launched on Monday, for patients living with problems with their muscles, joints and bones.
Patients calling will be asked a series of questions by trained staff to assess their problem and will be offered advice on self-management or referred to a local healthcare professional.
Musculoskeletal problems take up more than 30 per cent of all GP consultations.
The freephone service can be accessed by calling 0800 849 2029.
