Ninewells Hospital played host to a food and drink feedback event for patients across NHS Tayside.
The event, which was hosted by NHS Tayside’s Public Involvement Team, was attended by members of the Public Partner Network - made up of patient groups, organisations and members of the public with an interest in health.
Participants heard from Dr Drew Walker, Director of Public Health who explained the journey taken by NHS Tayside to improve food and fluid in the hospital setting. They were also invited to take part in discussion groups where nurses, caterers and dietitians explained ongoing initiatives to improve patient information and implement protected mealtimes and equipment to assist patients with eating and drinking. The proposed new menu for NHS Tayside was also discussed.
The group also had the opportunity to taste some of the food that is available to patients while they are in hospital.
Public Partner Network members have the opportunity to influence and challenge decisions around services, make a difference to service improvements and stay informed on what’s going on within their NHS. They decide how they would like to be involved in a range of activities organised by NHS Tayside whether that’s online, completing surveys or participating in focus groups.
Those who are part of the network have the opportunity to participate in ‘It’s Your NHS’ events which are held twice a year. These events are an opportunity for people to come together to share their views and stay informed about their NHS Tayside.
The network is open to anyone who has an interest in their local NHS. If you would like to get involved in shaping and improving your NHS Tayside then please contact the Public Involvement Team for more information on: 0800 783 6110 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
If you would like to take part in the consultation on food, fluid and nutrition in NHS Tayside hospitals, you can complete the survey online at www.yournhstayside.scot.nhs.uk and follow Consultations.
