Paying tribute to organ donors

NHS Tayside’s Organ Donation Committee is hosting its inaugural memorial service later this year to pay tribute to all those who have donated organs in Tayside.

The ‘Time to Remember’ service extends an open invitation to those families and friends of loved ones who donated organs, transplant recipients, medical and nursing staff, and supporters of organ donation.

The event is being organised by NHS Tayside’s Organ Donation Committee, in conjunction with NHS Blood & Transplant.

It is taking place on Thursday, May 10 at the University of Dundee’s Chaplaincy Centre, Cross Row. The service will start at 7 pm (those attending should be seated by 6.45 pm) and will last around 45 minutes. Refreshments will be provided afterwards.

Specialist nurse in organ donation June Osborne said: “The ‘Time to Remember’ memorial service is, first and foremost, for the families and friends of those who have been organ and tissue donors in Tayside.

“Nursing and medical staff involved in organ transplantation will also be attending the event, along with local dignitaries.

“Very few people in the UK become organ donors, around 70 a year in Scotland - and this very special evening is to recognise the legacy left by this special group of people.”

For more information, or if you are interested in attending the memorial service and would like a booking form, email June Osborne june.osborne@nhsbt.nhs.uk

Booking is essential and booking forms must be in by Friday, March 23.
