Tayside Contracts enjoyed a double win at the National Association of Care Catering (NACC) Awards 2013 earlier this month.

The team came out triumphant, winning the prestigious Individual Award and the Sustainability Award.

This year’s winners were announced in front of 200 peers at a special dinner held on Thursday, September 12, in Blackpool.

This year’s winner of the Catering Team/Individual of the Year Award 2013 was Bill Kennedy Tayside Contracts’ facilities services manager.

He was nominated for having demonstrated outstanding achievement in the field of care catering.

Bill, who has worked for over 30 years in the local authority, was credited as being one of the main linchpins in the creation of the brand Tay Cuisine 10 years ago which included a radical meal regeneration not seen in Scotland at that time.

Bill was instrumental in ensuring that a fully qualified nutritionist was introduced to the team to ensure that the nutritional needs of all services users where continuously met whilst ensuring their views where sought periodically and incorporated into balanced menus.

Tayside Contracts’ Tay Cuisine came out tops in the Sustainability Award 2013, having introduced a ‘greener’ approach in 2011 in conjunction with Tayside Contracts’ environmental and quality technical assistant.

The approach set out to manage the amount of waste being generated at Tay Cuisine’s cook-fresh central production unit and was estimated to have saved £10,000 in the course of the year.

The main focus was to ensure that Tay Cuisine became the first Tayside Contracts premises to become a zero waste unit.

Neel Radia, chair, NACC comments: “It was an absolute pleasure and honour to present the incredible winners with their deserved awards. My heartfelt congratulations go to all the winners.

“They really do epitomise the truly excellent work that is being done across the country by care caterers.

“Every single finalist should be proud of their great achievement at the NACC Awards, and also of their fantastic achievements in their work.

“Care catering is a specialised discipline and it is clear from the NACC Awards that our sector boasts highly skilled and dedicated people, who are, quite frankly, inspirational.”
