The organisers of an Arbroath school football tournament which has been running for more than a century are appealing for your help.

This year the Watters Cup celebrates its 106th competition and the organising committee wants to mark this special occasion by collecting memories and memorabilia from over a century of clashes at Gayfield.

The committee is looking for any video footage, photographs, reports, memorabilia of any kind, and memories from those who have taken part or spectated over the years.

A spokesperson for the Arbroath Primary School Sports Association explained: “This competition has been running for so many years, and involved so many generations of Arbroath youngsters.

“People have played in this competition, grown up, had families of their own and then watched their children play at Gayfield.

“There is an enormous wealth of incredibly valuable local heritage out there from the 106 Watters Cup finals.

“We want to bring that all together and create something special to celebrate this fantastic competition and the legacy it has created for Arbroath.

“It is hoped that the committee will, at least, be able to produce a souvenir programme in time for this year’s final in May.”

If you have any memories or memorabilia of the Watters Cup which you would like to share please hand them in to any Arbroath Primary School ‘FAO: Watters Cup Memories’, or contact Darren Bluman, Hayshead PS, St Abbs Road, Arbroath, DD11 5AB, email HayBlumanD@haysheadangus.sch.uk or call 01241 438111.
