Local Brechin teenager, Imogen Sherrit, is getting ready to go to the USA for her gap year.
Imogen, who has been raising funds for her trip all year, is due to fly to Virginia on August 15 as part of the Foreign Links Around the Globe gap year programme.
It is a Michigan based non-profit organisation, authorised to place international high school students with American volunteer host families and schools for an academic year and/or semester programmes.
Speaking ahead of her trip Imogen said: “I just wanted to say thank you to the paper for the articles and local people who have helped me in achieving my goal this year; they have been very supportive and have taken great interest in my plans to travel to America.
“I’d especially like to thank all those who gave me donations, the shops who sold my quizzes and put up posters for my fundraisers and of course everyone who helped me organise the fundraisers themselves.
I managed to raise all my funds and I am just getting packed and ready to fly.”
Imogen plans to document her trip.
She added: “If anyone would like to follow my travels I will be posting regularly on my blog, which is imogensherrit.wordpress.com.”
