I am a fan of the great outdoors. I love going out for bike rides or nice long walks with the dog. I do not, however, love walking along the nature trail from Drumachlie to Leuchland.
Don’t get me wrong it is a lovely walk - when it is possible to walk along it.
With the recent bad weather the path is obviously muddy but I can overcome that by putting on my wellies. What I struggle with is navigating along a thin narrow path where you have to walk with one foot about a foot higher than the other.
Add in grass that at times comes past your knees the whole experience goes from pleasant to far too dangerous for me, and yes, there have been times when I have had to walk home caked in mud from head to toe because I have fallen.
It is only one very small stretch of the walk but it has put me off using the path as much as I would like to. Maybe it puts other people off too as I can not remember the last time I met someone at any point along the 2.5 mile walk.
At times when I have walked along the path I have thought about bringing a spade and digging a better path myself.
It wouldn’t just benefit walkers if the path was improved. If is was possible to widen and flatten this wee stretch of path it would, I think, be possible to cycle round the route on a mountain bike, something that is just not possible right now.
