In search of family roots

A keen reader of the Brechin Advertiser, based in Canada, has come forward to help one teenager fund a trip to America.

Canadaina George Allan Tucker asked his cousin Mike Webster to donated £10 to the fund, which Mike matched, for Imogen Sherrit’s dream trip to Warrenton, Virginia with Foreign Links Around the Globe (FLAG).

With a great interest in young people trying to progress in life and to better themselves, he made the small donation towards Imogen’s travel wishing her the very best of good fortune in the future.

The gap year programme Imogen has applied for, run by FLAG, places international high school students with American volunteer host families and schools for an academic year and/or semester programme.

George keeps up-to-date with events happening in Brechin through the Brechin Advertiser website, having connections to Brechin through his forefathers who lived and worked in the City.

Whilst visiting Brechin a couple of years past George spent much of his time trying to track down living relations, unfortunately that time he could only relate to buildings and places where they once lived.

He plans to return in the future in an attempt to meet with family who live in the area and is keen to hear from anyone who may have information relating to his family history.

If you have information contact George on P.O. Box 139, 104 Church Street S, St Marys, ON, N4X 1A9.
