This Sunday sees the time-honoured Kirkin’ of the council take place at Old St Andrews Church on Montrose High Street.
A civic procession will assemble at Montrose Museum in Panmure Place at about 10.30am, before setting off for the kirk about 15 minutes later, led by pipers.
This year, at the invitation of the Angus Provost Helen Oswald, the council’s mace will be carried by Kevin McEwen, a senior NCO (non-commissioned officer) with 225 (Scottish) Medical Regiment and property services quantity surveyor at Angus Council.
Provost Oswald said: “We are delighted that Kevin is involved in the kirkin’. His role reflects the long and positive association that the army reserve medical unit has with communities in this part of the country.
“Our civic procession also presents us with another opportunity to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the great bravery and sacrifices of our forebears.”
