THE Brechiner’s latest bid to encourage people to shop locally was a runaway success.

Some 39 local outlets came on board over the course of the month-long promotion – with the result we had almost £1,000 in vouchers to give away as prizes.

For the first three weeks the prize was £100 of shopping vouchers and the lucky winners were Elizabeth Rosie of Park Road, Brechin, Mr C. Cameron, City Road, Brechin and Samantha May, Mountskip Road, Brechin.

The promotion operated on much the same lines as the one run on the countdown to Christmas.

Each time a customer spent £10 in a participating outlet one of five boxes on a loyalty card were marked.

The customer kept the card and, once all £10 boxes had been marked, shoppers completed their contact details on the card and handed it into the Brechin Advertiser office at 13 Swan Street, Brechin.

Each card was complete when £50 was spent - whether it was in one shop or several.

And, throughout the course of the promotion, shoppers were free to complete as many cards as they wished.

In addition to the three £100 prize-winners we completed the promotion with a grand prize draw with all completed cards going into Monday’s draw for a first prize of £400 in vouchers and a runners-up prize of £275 in vouchers.

And, first out of the hat to claim the £400 prize was Mrs Abbot, Brakendale, Dalhousie Street, Edzell, while Mrs Mary McRitchie of Hillview, Brechin (pictured right receiving her prize from Andy Mitchell of The Brechiner) taking the runners-up prize of £275.

We at The Brechiner would like to thank all 39 outlets for their participation in the scheme, designed to get people shopping locally.

The promotion certainly worked, judging by the sheer number of entries handed into our office in Swan Street, which suggests many tens of thousands of pounds were spent over the course of the month.

The latest promotion may be over , but we will continue to work to promote the local community.

We will also be keeping our readers bang up to date with events in the area throughout the summer months.
