A fundraising event for Lethnot Hall community group led to an unusual journey for one duck race competitor.

The group organised a summer fair on June 28, with 400 rubber ducks released for the duck race, but there were several escapees.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Due to high water on the west water river some escaped. One little boy called Archie Oakley, aged eight, bought his duck choosing number one from the local glen postie hoping it would be in poll position.

“On the day it was unsuccessful. However, on a summer outing some weeks later he found a duck on St Cyrus beach. Checking with the hall committee he found it was one of their escapees.

“They wonder what exciting adventure it had travelling all the way from Lethnot to St Cyrus on the West water.”

The group have hosted a number of fundraising activities, including a car treasure hunt earlier this year which was very well attending.

Their next event is a dance on October 10. All fund raised by the group go back into the local hall fund.
