Lib Dem candidate supports housing move

Angus Lib Dem Janet Cowan, Brechin and Edzell candidate, has backed Angus Council on the action they have taken on the rent arrears they inherited from the previous SNP admistration.

Janet said: “The figure has gone down from almost 14% to just over 7% and in the past there were a number of tenants who could pay their rent but did not pay their rent and got away with it.

“I do not see why this was allowed by the SNP and if elected I would continue to make sure the action on those who could pay their rent but did not were dealt with.”

Janet is also an opponent of the SNPs cuts to housing budget, given the desperate need for housing that local people can afford.

She has pointed out that the council had originally tried to work with housing associations but due to a lack of Scottish Government money these did not happen as a result the council has had to move forward by itself. Janet added that she felt it is a pity that the Scottish Government has cut their funding for housing by the huge sum of 30% as this has meant they are not able to do as much as they would like to help increase the much needed affordable housing.
