10-year-old Myrrun organises coffee morning instead of party

Some 10-year-olds hope to have a party with their friends to celebrate their birthday but one youngster has instead organised a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Myrrun Thomson decided to hold the coffee morning, which will take place in the Mechanics’ Institute on Friday, September 28, after losing her grandfather Robbie to stomach cancer in October and her grandmother a year past April.

Cakes will be available on the day, with each and every cake being baked by Myrrun herself.

On the day there is also the opportunity to send a message to heaven. For only £1.50 you can write a message on a card for a loved one who has past away. These messages will then be attached to a balloon filled with helium, provided by Occasions, and sent up to heaven.

A gentleman, who has suffered from cancer, will be on hand to provide a story with a happy ending, having received help from Macmillian Cancer Support when he needed it.

Also to raise money Myrrun’s mum will be getting her head shaved for the cancer. City Gents will be in attendance at around 12.30pm to do the deeds.

As well as a tombola and kids stalls, there will also be a raffle, with tickets available on the day, or can be purchased from the Brechin Advertiser office. Tickets cost £1.50 for five, £1 for three or 50p for one.

Prizes available include winning a slave for a day, a £40 gift vouchers for Backyard Games, a week’s cleaning, DVDs, bottles of wine, craft sets, jewellery, gift certificates for local hairdressers and beauty salons and much, much more.

Concessions can benefit from the special offer of paying £1.50 on the door and receiving three raffle tickets, tea, coffee and biscuit.
