13 years as a councillor

Friday saw a night of celebration in the Kinloch Arms Hotel in Carnoustie as friends, family and colleagues gathered to mark Peter Murphy’s 13 years as a Labour councillor and latterly as Depute Provost of Angus.

Serving Labour councillor Margaret Thomson was among those paying warm tribute to Peter’s dedicated service to the people of Carnoustie and District.

On a more personal note she also thanked Peter for using his experience as a councillor to help her when first elected.

Peter’s response gave a potted biography which included a full rendition of the traditional Scottish song “Nicky Tams” and he also paid tribute to his wife Margaret whose help has always been unstinting.

Jenny Marra, one of Labour’s N.E. Members of Scottish Parliament also thanked Peter saying:

“Peter’s life of public service is an inspiration for young people who want to serve their communities. The lives he touched and transformed in teaching and politics were many.”

Peter was presented with an engraved quaich and a bottle of malt whisky and Margaret was given a bouquet of flowers.
