Bel’s Butcher in Edzell has continued to live up to its award winning ways, with another title to add to their ever growing collection.
The business, owned by Bel Forbes, was judged to produce steak pies that were amongst the best in Scotland.
Bel’s Butchers won a silver award at the 2013 Scottish Craft Butchers Steak Pie Evaluation, held at Perth College, last month.
Bel collected the award at a special presentation held at Lovat Hotel, Perth on Wednesday, September 11.
More than 150 pies from throughout the country were tested for appearance, flavour, filling and appeal.
The panel of judges included experts, cooks and interested consumers and the event was organised by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders in conjunction with the Scotch Butchers Club and William Sword Ltd.
David Mooney, direct sales manager of William Sword, who were sponsoring the event, commented: “These awards are extremely important in the Scottish meat industry calendar, celebrating excellence across the board. “To receive an award is a fantastic achievement as these winners represent the upper crust of the Scottish meat industry, tremendous given the high standard of produce across Scotland as a whole.”
Laurent Vernet, head of marketing with Quality Meat Scotland which runs the Scotch Butchers Club, who were also sponsors of the Steak Pie Evaluation added: “Scotland’s beef is world-renowned thanks to its outstanding quality and exceptional taste.
“It’s also an extremely versatile product which can be used to make fantastic modern recipes as well as high quality products such as steak pies .
“This award is a fantastic opportunity to see the energy, enthusiasm and skill our butchers have.
“Their commitment to producing top quality beef products points to a bright future for the industry.”
It’s the second time this year the butcher has received awards, with Bel collecting six awards at the Scottish Craft Awards in May.
