Brechin CAB service now operating weekly

A MUCH utilised local advice and information service is expanding its Brechin operation in a bid to cater for greater demand and to cut down on the length of time those wishing to utilise the facility have to wait between appointments.

Angus Citizens Advice Bureau has held an outreach clinic at Brechin Infirmary on a fortnightly basis for several years.

The clinic gives people the opportunity to talk confidentially about a wide range of issues, including employment, benefits, relationship matters, housing, consumer and debt issues, as well as offering a complete benefit checking service.

Manager Kathy Anderson explained: "The decision to go weekly was made to ensure the best possible service to clients.

"Sometimes clients have struggled to wait for two weeks to attend and we hope to prevent this problem from recurring.

"Requests for advice in the clinic vary as much as requests in the main office, covering the full range of enquiries we deal with.

"An appointment-based system also means we can ensure we have any additional information leaflets, etc., available as we will know the enquiry topic in advance.

"Although we do not have any additional resources for this service we feel we can manage the increase in frequency as no staff will be required on weeks when there are no appointments. We will continue to assess this on an on-going basis.

"Following a review of this service the decision has been taken to make this service weekly, still operating from 2 pm to 4 pm on Wednesdays.

"In order to cut back on waiting times and ensure a better service for all the clinic will now operate on an appointment only basis.

"Appointments can be made by contacting the Montrose office on 01674 673263 or by e-mail on bureau@montrosecab.casonline.org.uk."

The new service will begin on Wednesday, January 20.
