Brechin Cadet tackles project
A Brechin Army Cadet was among a party from Angus and Dundee who spent a weekend working on their BTEC projects at their unit's Buddon HQ and training centre near Monifieth.
Corporal Eileen Donegan is tackling a BTEC project which brings each successful candidate a First Diploma in Public Service, which is the equivalent of four Standard Grades – a valuable addition to a young person's qualifications when seeking entry to college or even into a job – and can be done largely through cadet activities and a couple of specific training weekends.
However it is not the easy option it sounds, as before cadets can sign up for it, they have to have achieved the coveted three-star proficiency qualification through the cadets' own syllabus.
An added bonus for a cadet piper or drummer is that a separate BTEC Diploma can be gained through music, which has the same value, and does not stop a cadet doing the "mainstream" BTEC Diploma as well - in other words gaining the equivalent of eight extra Standard Grades.
