Brechin Castle Equestrian set to close riding school
BRECHIN Castle Equestrian is to close its riding school in April after running for 10 years.
The move comes as part of a number of organisational changes carried out by owners, Dalhousie Estates.
Set up in 2000, the equestrian centre has developed into a valued and popular local riding centre.
But dwindling profits from the school seems to have forced its closure.
The livery yard will continue to operate at full capacity though and the now well established One Day Event will continue to be held, with this year's spectacle set to take place on May 1.
The estate also hopes to continue with the summer programme of small shows and competitions.
Factor at Dalhousie Estates, Richard Cooke, said: "Certain aspects of our successful equestrian business have been more profitable than others and it is with much regret that we have therefore decided to close the riding school.
"This decision has not been taken lightly because we do understand that this part of our business is much valued locally. However, the other aspects of Brechin Castle Equestrian will continue in operation and hopefully go from strength to strength."
Manager of the business, Alison Duff, is leaving to look after her family, with one of the regular freelance instructors, Fiona Hirst, will be taking over as manager, with some part time help.
Mr Cooke said: "We are very grateful for the support received from our local customers and volunteers and I must also take the opportunity of thanking Alison for working tirelessly to build up the business to its present level; also our advisers and numerous helpers."
