Bronze award for Bel’s Butcher

Butcher staff from Edzell-based Bel’s Butchers, are celebrating another award for one of the business’ products.

The Scotch Pie Club has presented the butcher’s with a bronze award for their sausage roll at the 15th World Scotch Pie Championships.

Bel Forbes, who owns the business, said: “We are delighted with our win and can go away with our heads held very high indeed. To have been judged as one of the best in the land against so many of our peers is a huge achievement.”

The ultimate prize and new holder of the title ‘World Scotch Pie Champion 2014’ went to The Kandy Bar of Saltcoats.

The awards saw a record entry of 100 butchers and bakers submit a total of 543 pies, pasties, sausage rolls, bridies, savouries and apple pies.

The competition is supported by Scottish Bakers and the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders.

Both trade associations actively support and promote bakers and butchers in Scotland by encouraging and sharing best practise. Alan Clarke and Douglas Scott, respective chief executives of both associations, were impressed with the overall standard of the products and gave thanks to Bako Northern and Scotland who sponsored the competition.
