Angus area’s only dedicated veteran rugby team, the Brechin BRUCE are looking forward to another bumper year of games, fun and adventures.
Despite a break in playing rugby since late June the BRUCE and their female counterparts the Sheilas have been busy playing a part in local community events such as The Pageant, the Angus Show and the recent Harley Davidson event in a bid to raise funds but more importantly to give something back to their local community.
The BRUCE’s get back into the playing front on August 16 when they travel to Tillycoultry to take part in the Scotish Golden Oldies Festival with an unexpected 15 teams competing. This will be the team’s fourth appearance at this annual event which is regarded as the biggest festival of its kind in Scotland.
The following month on September 20 sees the team holding their home annual festival in what is fast becoming one of the most popular festivals in the North-east of Scotland for veteran’s rugby with teams travelling from Edinburgh, Kirkcaldy, Cupar, Tillycoultry and Stonehaven for this year’s event.
An important part of these festivals is the social hospitality following the games and the Brechin team excels in this department.
In October the team will again be making their mark on the European stage having accepted an invitation from last year’s Italian opponents the Reggio Old Becks to assist them in taking on the veterans of Toulouse in France.
The team will have a game roughly once a month over the remainder of the season and in between times will be preparing to host the Italian team who will be coming over to Scotland to play the BRUCE in the later part of June 2015.
Anyone interested in joining the team, the ladies team or the junior team is invited to get in touch.
