Chloe a stage closer to Hollywood dream
A YOUNG actress from Trinity is hoping to fulfil her dream of acting in Hollywood after being accepted into the New York Film Academy.
Currently studying acting for the stage at Aberdeen College, Chloe Cuthill's hopes for a career on the silver screen received a massive boost when she was told her London audition for the famous film school was successful.
However, 18-year-old Chloe has a race against time on her hands as she has to raise some $44,000 (28,000) in tuition fees alone to pay for her two year course - and she has to raise it by July.
Getting there would be a dream come true though and she's keeping her fingers crossed that she'll be able to make it.
Chloe said: "The school prepares young people to act in front of the cameras. It's a two year course, with the first being held in New York itself, the second is in Los Angeles.
"I'm very excited. I was really shocked when I found out I'd made it. It's an amazing school.
"I know how to act, but I don't think I'd know what to do at a television audition. I need that experience."
The school's alumni include the sons of Steven Spielberg and Susan Sarandon, while Justine Wachsberger – a former pupil of the school – stars as Gianna in the cult vampire film, New Moon, based on the Twilight series.
Chloe, who works part time at Journeycall in Laurencekirk, hopes her acceptance there is just the start of a long acting career, but admits there are a number of obstacles in her way, not least of which is cost.
She said: "I need to raise $44,000 in tuition fees alone. They give some sort of scholarship, but they only gave me about $6,000, so I'm hoping to hold some fund raising events to raise the money.
"I hope to get a proper working visa too so I can start acting professionally and find an agent.
"There's nothing else I want to do more."
Chloe says she doesn't have a hero as such but admits to being a big admirer of Denzel Washington and Joan Cusack.
The fundraising kicked off at the weekend with a race night in Laurencekirk Hall, raising 551.
Chloe has also written to a host of actors to ask for sponsorship, including David Tennant, Gerard Butler and Simon Pegg. However, she has had no success so far.
She said: "None of them could sponsor me but most of them did respond with handwritten letters, which was really nice.
"The Race Night was a great success and lots of people turned up. Thanks to everyone who came and to all the local businesses that donated raffle prizes."
If you'd like to sponsor Chloe or make a donation to her tuition fees, you can phone her on 01356 624020 or email cuthill26@hotmail.com.
