A local MSP has given his backing to a new website that can help boost the funds for charity by users simply doing their online shopping.
Nigel Don, who represents Angus North and Mearns, has added his support to the “give as you live” website.
The Parachute Regiment Charity is currently boosting its funds through the ‘Give as you Live’ website which offers shoppers the opportunity to raise funds for good causes while they make their purchases.
The website has signed up more than 2,000 retailers such as John Lewis, M&S, B&Q, Argos, Next and Amazon which are all donating a percentage of the customers’ spend, ranging from one per cent to seven per cent depending on the retailer, to the charity.
This commission is already included in the price of purchases, so shoppers can support their favourite cause at no extra cost and Mr Don pointed out that any good cause can sign up for a “Give as you Live” website.
Users who shop using the site can select from over 200,000 charities, local and national, to donate to.
The site has already helped to raise more than £4 million for it’s associated charities.
Mr Don commented: “This is an easy option for online shoppers to support a good cause.
“Yes I would encourage people to buy locally where possible, however we have to recognise that a large amount of money is spent online.
“This is an easy way in these difficult times for consumers to buy goods and give to important charities; not just the Paras but any good cause can sign up for a “give as you live website” and I would encourage local groups across Scotland to join in.”
