An Edzell butcher was the site of celebrations for the ‘Year of the Haggis’ as Burns Night (January 25) approaches.
Immediate Past President of the Robert Burns World, Robert Stewart, was at Bel’s Butcher, owned by Bel Forbes, as they prepared to welcomed supplies of the first haggis of the season to arrive in Angus.
The ‘Year of the Haggis’ is being promoted by two Scottish federations. The Robert Burns World Federation designated 2014 the year of the haggis, and the Scottish Federation of the Meat Traders (SFMTA) have teamed up with them to promote haggis in the 440 shops in their membership in Scotland.
The Year of the Haggis has had an excellent acknowledgement by the members of the Scottish Parliament.
The fun and involvement side of the project is a quiz which will be available on the web sites of the two Federations. Anyone can enter for this and for the younger people an additional participation by drawing of a haggis on an A4-size sheet and prizes are available.
Participating haggis makers will have themed posters on display throughout the year connecting with ongoing events in Scotland during the year and have now received their certificates of participation together with other support advertising.
