Edzell charity walker on the road again
WELL-KNOWN Edzell walking machine, Bobby Campbell, is about to set off on another walking marathon.
This time he will start a 365 day-one whole year - long walk which gets under way on Saturday, March 1. The walk will see Bobby aim to walk six miles a day, every day for a year. That's well over 2000 miles. Come rain, come shine - with not a day off in between.
One of Bobby's staunchest supporters, Andy Middlemiss of Edzell said: "This time Bobby has chosen to raise funds and awareness for SSAFA Forces Help (The Solders, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association), the charity which helps serving, ex-servicemen and women, and their families.
"Being an ex-serviceman himself, and having seen personally how SSAFA helped his wife Marie recently, Bobby wants to repay some of the kindness, and tell more people of the SSAFA's excellent work.
"Bobby will officially start his year long challenge from the Dalhousie Arch on March 1 leaving at 10am. All are welcome to cheer him on his way and wish him every success in his adventure.
"He has not been daunted by a recent hip operation and he intends to cover the miles in one stint daily or two sessions.
"Bobby will be carrying sponsorship forms and leaflets on his walks, so anyone wanting to donate, or find our more, will be looked after on the spot. If anyone wants to donate to the SSAFA at any time, they may also do so through the local branch office, by writing to the branch secretary, SSAFA Forces Help, Balhousie Castle, Hay Street, Perth, PH1 5HR. Telephone 01738 623214.
"More information about the gallant work the charity carroes out is also available at www.sssfa,org.uk.
"Finally, I'd like to say well done and good luck Bobby on the start of your latest adventure. If you see him, give him a wave or even better give him some money. He will walk across the finish line on Saturday, February 28, 2009."
