Edzell pupils make use of new play equipment
THE children of Edzell Primary School are enjoying making use of £10,000 worth of new play equipment, which was officially opened for use on Friday morning.
The new playground equipment is the result of an from Awards for All grant and the contributions made by the local community.
Edzell Primary School's Parent Teacher's Association chairwoman Judith Hay said the children had been aware of the arrival of the new play equipment and they were delighted to be finally getting it put into place to utilise.
"It took a long time getting the money," explained Judith. "We have been fund-raising for the last two years, with a number of events locally."
"We ran the charity shop in Edzell a couple of times and we also organised an autumn fair and we produced a calendar for this year, which local business sponsored by advertising in it.
"The calendar was a huge fund-raiser and one which the whole community really got behind and got involved with.
"The school now has an adventure playground. The kids from the nursery right through to primary seven can use the facility and, while it's great for their physical development, it also enhances the playground.
"It equipment made a big difference and the children have really taken to it.
"It was going to be originally opened during the Easter holidays and the children have been watching and wondering when it was all going to happen, so we decided that Friday past would be the day of our official opening.
"We want to thank Awards for All for the money. Also Susan Boyd, who was the person who filled out the application on behalf of the Edzell PTA, along with Val Morris the head teacher.
"The community and the parents also need a big thank you for their huge support. There were times when perhaps they felt we were never going to get there."
