Enough food for everyone campaign

Christian Aid has joined forces with over 100 organisations to launch their ‘Enough Food For Everyone’ campaign.

Nearly 900 million people – one in eight of the world’s population go to bed hungry every night and more than two million children die from malnutrition annually.

Food prices are at a peak and set to rise further, hitting poor people hardest at home and around the world.

Food prices may rise, perhaps as high as 15 per cent, due to the worst drought in the US for 60 years as well as poor harvests in Russia and South America.

That hunger exists to the extent that it does today is a scandal – there is enough food in the world for each of its 7 billion inhabitants.

The campaign is the largest mass mobilisation against poverty since Make Poverty History, with high profile supporters including Ewan McGregor, Bill Gates, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

The Brechin Committee of Christian Aid is holding two fund raising events as follows:-

A coffee morning will take place on Saturday, February 16 at Gardner Memorial Church from 10 a.m.

Stalls include baking, soft toys, fair-trade, hamper etc.

The Hall will be open on Friday night from 6 to 7 p.m., for any donations to be handed in.

On Friday, April 19 Danny Laverty, a well known singer from Arbroath, has agreed to perform on at the Gardner Memorial Church, starting at 7 p.m.

Tickets will be available at the door priced at £5.

Pop along and support their work and help make a real difference.
