Exciting new menu to
enjoy at Glen Clova

Glen Clova Hotel is somewhere I have frequented over many years, enjoying the warm hospitality to celebrate special occasions as well as dropping in for a hearty bowl of soup and a welcome drink after a day in the hills.

I have never been let down by the food on offer and love the ambience of the lovely hotel set at the foot of Loch Brandy so I was looking forward to my trip to try out the latest offerings from the new kitchen team at the hotel which is still under the ownership of the Niven family.

And I was not to be disappointed - everything about the experience would have me going back for more.

Along with my hubbie, son and his girlfriend we headed up early on a fairly dreich Friday. As soon as we arrived the welcome was warm and friendly with the staff greeting us at the door and showing us to our table. Drinks were offered straight away which we were able to enjoy while browsing the new menu.

I have to say, it was hard to choose as everything on the menu appealed to me! In the end I started with the warm carmelised goats cheese with golden beetroot, candied walnuts and aged balsamic juices - totally scrummy! Hubbie chose the parfait of chicken livers and oatcakes with rhubarb and ginger chutney, which he declared was very tasty, although a couple more oat cakes wouldn’t have gone amiss. Son really enjoyed the home-made leek and potato soup.

For my main I selected the Clova-farmed double loin chop. This was from the new Josper Grill menu. A Josper Grill, the menu explains, is a Spanish-made oven fuelled by charcoal and heated up to 500 degrees. It cooked my two massive loin chops to perfection. They were juicy and not overly done with the hint of pink that I like.

The others declared their choices of the Clova burger box with a large, meaty homemade burger, the Clova minute steak sandwich and homemade Margharita pizza to all be delicious. Everything was hot, fresh and perfectly accompanied by salads, chips and veg.

Although pretty full by now I was determined to sample pudding. Between the four of us we devoured the warm chocolate brownie and cream and homemade fudge cheesecake. We all decided we would definitely be back again soon!
