First meeting takes place of Edzell Flood Group

Members of Edzell’s recently formed Flood Group met for the first time on Monday, January 28, to work on an action plan in an attempt to prevent flooding in the village.
In attendance at the meeting were Paul Hendry, director of the Scottish Flood Forum, councillor Bob Myles, villagers and a representative from both EVIS and Inveresk Community Council.
It was expressed at the meeting that a number of individuals with relevant professional backgrounds in areas such as legal, engineering and policy making, have expressed an interest to help the group but would prefer to do so without becoming a members.
Chairperson for the group is Fiona Work, note taker is Linda Hoskins.
The meeting was used to discuss short term actions, with the group looking to the longer term solutions at their next meeting.
As a result of the meeting the following actions have been identified:-
Diversion of the burn will be explored in the background and a long term action plan will be discussed at the next meeting.
Angus Council responsibilities were identified as: a topographic study, which will take place in the next two weeks, a village drainage plan and to explore CCTVs at culverts.
Cleaning blockages on Wishop Burn
All parts of the Wishop Burn, from North of Muir to West Water, were identified for urgent maintenance. Relevant parties are to be contacted regarding this.
Councillor Bob Myles is to look at funding for the group with it having charitable status.
He is also going to approach those with responsibilities for maintenance of Wishop Burn and will work with the council with their responsibilities.
Paul Hendry will work with Angus council about flood protection products and is already working with villagers on flood surveys.
He will be available in the Cottage, Dalhousie Street, every Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m., for anyone with any questions who want to talk to him privately. Free information and support is available to all.

The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 12, at 7.30 p.m., in the Cottage. Information about the meeting can be found on the Edzell Post Office board.
