Brechin High School’s partnership with local business Forster Group, has received a Partnership Excellence Award.

The Partnership Recognition event took place on June 10, and is held to celebrate, acknowledge and publicise the excellent partnerships that exist between schools and employers in Angus.

Forster Group and Brechin High School were crowned the winners of Partnership Excellence Award (secondary), with Links Park Community Trust and the Montrose cluster of schools taking the Partnership Excellence Award (primary).

Presenting the awards was Councillor Sheena Welsh, convener of education. She said: “Bringing life to learning and learning to life is important for all our young people – helping to bring context and relevance to their learning by providing an insight into the world of work whilst at the same time developing within them the skills, attitudes, knowledge and values required for success in the modern business world.

“Only last week, the Commission for Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce recommended that employers play a far bigger role in schools, and together forge stronger ties to provide an education which will lead successfully to employment.

“I am delighted that here in Angus, we are already building these partnerships, helping our young people prepare for a successful life beyond school, while enabling organisations to invest in the future of their business and cultivate an enterprising ethos in Angus.”

Also at the event, Partners in Learning Awards went to 115 businesses, including Brechin Castle Garden Centre, Hedzup Ltd, Bowls Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Radio North Angus and Smallword Nursery.

Any businesses or organisations interested in working in partnership with schools in Angus should contact Lesley Watson, business liaison officer, on (01307) 476443 for further information.
