'Girls Nite In' as pupils celebrate women in business

BRECHIN High School has celebrated a campaign geared at increasing women in business with a special 'Mark Your Mark' themed party.

They were joined at their 'Girls Nite In' celebration by some local successes, and female pupils also had the opportunity to share their entrepreneurial and business experiences/achievements.

A buffet was available and local businesswoman Mary McPherson from The Relaxation Company took guests through a "stress busting session".

Girls from the schools musical "It's only a Cabaret" then treated the 90-strong audience to a few songs. Mrs Tracey Stewart (Depute Headteacher) gave the welcome and Ms Nancy Croall (Enterprise co-ordinator and organiser of the event) gave the vote of thanks.

"In the UK the rate of women's entrepreneurship is half that of men's, and in order to increase innovation and creativity in the UK marketplace, it is essential to grow the number of women-owned businesses," said a spokesperson.

"The Make Your Mark campaign is responding to this obvious disparity between men and women, and has created a campaign called 'Girls! Make Your Mark'.

"It was launched on Women's Enterprise Day last year and has the backing of Rt Hon Margaret Hodge MP, Minister for the Industry and Regions," they added.
