Have you got the best garden of them all?
ANGUS Council tenants are now being invited to be considered for the 2010 annual awards for council house gardens.
The closing date for applications is July 5, and the judging will take place on week beginning July 19.
Each year, awards are made to the best gardens in the county's towns and landward areas, and other categories.
The awards will be made at a ceremony in Arbroath on August 31, when winners and runners-up will receive trophies, certificates and vouchers.
Any tenants who wish their gardens to be considered for the award should contact the council's ACCESSLine on 08452 777778. Nominations will also be submitted by the local community housing visitor.
This year a new trophy will be awarded in the disabled tenants' category. A new cup donated by Stewart Edward, a former Angus Council head of service, will be awarded in place of the current trophy which is showing signs of wear and tear.
Councillor Jim Millar, convener of neighbourhood services, said: "I hope that all tenants with gardens, whatever their level of experience and expertise, will consider entering for these awards.
"Well-kept gardens, whether large or small, enhance the appearance of our towns and villages. These awards give the council the chance to thank our hard-working gardeners for their ongoing efforts.
"I was very pleased with the high standard of entries last year, including those for the convener's trophy for the new sustainable garden category, the trophy awarded to the gardener who had made best use of organic and recycling methods.
"I am confident that this year we will again see an excellent standard of entries for the awards."
