Organisers behind the Brechin Angel Tree have paid tribute to all those who donated gifts.

Irene Gillies, who helped deliver the gifts in time for Christmas, said: “Thank you to all who donated gifts for the angel tree.

“Thanks also have to go to Mrs Hancox and Eileen Grouely and friends from St Ninian’s Church, to Yvonne and Brian Finley of the Salvation army who also helped to distribute gifts and to all those from the Cathedral who donated gifts.”

The angel tree was a great success this year, with more than 70 parcels beautifully wrapped and personalised for the children.

Irene continued: “Thanks also to all who helped sort the gifts in to families, streets and then delivered. We were a small group consisting of Beryl and Douglas White, Sandra and Frank Scott.

“What a wonderful group of people as the rain never stopped and we were constantly soaked, often no replies and we had to return, some addresses had changed and we had to search out where the children were but by Christmas Eve all parcels were delivered.

“Distributing the gifts is very rewarding, all were received with wonderful smiles and thanks.

“This Christmas has highlighted the difficulties many families in our town are coping with. The Salvation Army have a small food store and gifts of food will be handed out to those in need.

“The Rotary is having a food store to help those in difficulties. Its wonderful to see these groups in action all willing to bring help where needed to our community.
