One of the most celebrated weeks on the Christian calendar is ‘Holy Week’. To commemorate this special week, the Brechin Churches Together have asked you to join them in remembrance and celebration.
The week starts on Palm Sunday, this year April 13, where each of the local churches will hold their own services.
On Monday, April 14, 7 pm Edzell Church invites you to join with them for an outdoor service around their metal cross at 7 p.m. (weather permitting). Should the weather be unfavourable, the service will be inside the church.
On Tuesday, April 15, Baptist Fellowship invites you to join them for an evening of songs and remembering Christ’s teachings, starting at 7 p.m.
St Andrew’s Church will be holding their Holy Week Service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. April 16.
On ‘Holy Thursday, or ‘Maundy Thursday’, which falls on April 17, there will be services at St. Ninian’s, Brechin Cathedral, Gardner Memorial, and St. Andrew’s Church. Times for these services along with other weekly services are posted on the Brechin Churches Together Holy Week Posters around town.
On ‘Good Friday’, April 18, Brechin Churches Together will be doing a ‘Walk of Witness’. You are invited to join them at St. Andrew’s Church at 10 a.m., as they walk different church sites reading and singing their way to the Brechin Cathedral where they will end with a time of fellowship, along with hot cross Buns and tea or coffee. Once again in the evening there are several different services to choose from, please check the posters for more information.
The final events for Holy Week take place on Easter Sunday (April 20). The day starts with a Dawn Easter Praise at Edzell castle at 7 a.m., continues from there for a breakfast and communion fellowship at the Edzell Church. You can follow this with a service from your choice of church, and are invited to end the day with an evening of praise and poetry, 6 p.m. at the Brechin Cathedral.
