Kids playing deadly game on A90

POLICE have issued a warning after receiving reports of children playing a deadly game of "chicken" on a 70mph Angus dual carriageway.

Tayside Police said seven children were seen playing chicken across the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen road next to the Stracathro services at around 8pm on Monday, February 22.

Officers say they receive occasional reports of this type of reckless behaviour and have urged young people to heed their warnings before someone is seriously hurt or killed.

A spokesman for Tayside Police said: "Young people who get involved in this kind of behaviour might think it is harmless fun, but it clearly isn't. They are putting themselves in harm's way and not only risking their own lives, but also those of drivers, passengers and even other pedestrians.

"It's something that we take very seriously and where those responsible are traced, we will take appropriate action. At the same time we would ask members of the public to contact us where they witness incidents of this kind."

Past incidents described to the police have included children running onto the road in front of oncoming vehicles, pretending to pull ropes across the road, walking slowly in front of traffic or even simply standing on the road way and refusing to move for oncoming vehicles.

The spokesperson said: "No one can be in any doubt that these kinds of actions are inherently dangerous, particularly when they happened during hours of darkness."

Anyone with information on the incident should contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222 or speak to any officer.
