Motorists urged to take care during flooding
MOTORISTS travelling between Inchbare and Edzell are being urged to take care after heavy rainfall led to flooding on part of the road.
Members of Inveresk Community Council have aired concerns over flooding in the area in recent weeks - and a bend at Westside near the long straight into Edzell in particular.
Heavy rainfall has resulted in both sides of the road being flooded, and at their latest monthly meeting community councillors were worried that a combination of standing water near a blind bend, following a fast stretch of road, was an accident waiting to happen.
They were especially concerned by the sheer volume of water and the need for motorists to move into the middle of the road to navigate the hazard.
Warning signs were quickly put in place to warn drivers of the dangers, but members are keen to see if the problem, which has plagued the area in the past, can be fixed by Angus Council.
However, those hopes appear to have been dashed after an Angus Council spokesperson revealed that the drains themselves were not at fault.
They argued that the sheer level of rainfall had left the ground in the area so water-logged that the water had nowhere to go, despite existing drainage on the road.
And they have instead urged motorists using this and other local roads hit by localised flooding to take extra care until water levels subside.
"The Inchbare-Edzell flood is one we are aware of and there are signs out warning drivers," they said.
"Essentially nothing is wrong with the drainage but heavy rain, water coming off the fields and obviously water on the roads (has caused the problem].
"We are continuing to monitor the road - someone was out yesterday to ensure the signs were still out, but I'm afraid it's the weather that has caused it, and not drainage problems.
"It is really because of the volume of water in the ground. However, we are aware of the road, are continuing to monitor the situation and urge people to use caution during these conditions," they added.
