New-look single malt set for sale in the UK
ANGUS Dundee Distillers have announced that the new-look Glencadam Highland Single Malt, produced in Brechin, is to go on sale in the UK this year, writes Laura Cuthill.
Last year the company announced that it was to give its 15-year-old single malt a new look, while, at the same time, introducing a new ten-year-old single malt for sale, mainly on the export market.
The malts, which are distilled at the Glencadam Distillery here in Brechin, have mainly been sold to the export market but are expected to go on sale in the UK in the coming months.
Angus Dundee Distillers' Duncan Baldwin hopes the relaunched product will be as successful in the UK as it is abroad.
He said: "We export to more than 80 markets and sales have been doing steadily well.
"We decided that, initially in the UK, to sell out the old style Glencadam and that's nearly coming to an end now.
"So the UK will be on board with new designs of the ten and 15 year old single malts in the next few months and we hope that sales here will mirror that abroad."
Mr Baldwin said the company remains confident that sales would not be affected should there be any tax increases on alcohol in the new financial year.
He said: "Everyone will be in the same boat if that is the case, although any increase won't be beneficial to sales.
"While saying that, whisky appears to be very resilient and we shouldn't suffer too much even if there were an initial depression in sales."
The Glencadam Distillery opened in 1825 shortly after large-scale distilling was legalised and is one of the few remaining distilleries in Angus.
