Positive feedback delights Brechin Arts Festival organisers
FOUR thousand visitors to the various exhibitions and events during the 2006 Brechin Arts Festival made it a resounding success.
Chairperson of Brechin Arts Festival Ruth Leslie Melville commented: "It was especially gratifying to receive the positive feedback from exhibitors, performers and visitors about the pleasure they experienced during the 16 days event. Several of our events were sellouts and 1100 people attended the exhibitions in the Mechanics Institute.
"It is staggering to think that this has been achieved in three and a half years and that we are expanding yet again for the festival in 2007. This year we ventured into the House of Dun for a piano recital which was a tremendous success and has spurred us on to consider widening the area we cover as a festival. Next year the festival will be including Edzell for exhibitions and both musical and theatrical events.
"We have received very satisfying reports from shopkeepers, hoteliers, bed and breakfast establishments, cafes and such like about their increase in business during the festival. When the committee came together in the early Spring of 2003 our aim was to bring something special into our beautiful city, to stimulate interest in Brechin and encourage trade. Every year as the numbers coming into Brechin increase and the festival develops we see our aims being achieved.
"Next year the programme is going to be completely different with many new cultural avenues being explored and brought into Brechin. It is very exciting."
