Roads affected by winter weather
Fresh snow fall across parts of Tayside overnight has resulted in a number of roads and schools in the region being closed.
The winter weather conditions caused a road accident on the A94 Scone Road in Perth earlier this morning where a lorry jack-knifed and a car hit a traffic sign whilst trying to avoid the lorry. Those involved sustained minor injuries.
Transport Scotland has issued a Level 2 warning advising motorists to travel with extra caution and a number of roads in the area have already been closed due to snow. They are:-
Angus - B9128 Crombie; B9128 Lownie; B978 Wellbank; A923 Muirhead to Coupar Angus.
Perthshire - A93 Spittal of Glenshee; B953 Balbeggie
A Spokeswoman for Tayside Police said: “Clearly given the amount of snow that has fallen overnight in some parts of Tayside, minor and more rural routes have been affected, and all agencies are working hard to clear the roads with a priority on major routes.
“We would ask people to consider the necessity of their journey, and to ensure that they are prepared for the road conditions, leaving plenty of time for their journey and have suitable equipment and clothing in their vehicles.
“Drivers must tailor their driving to suit the conditions and be prepared for these poor conditions. Please use dipped beam headlights and also make sure that all lights, windows and windscreens are kept clean and clear to avoid any reduction in visibility. With the very low temperatures make sure that screen washer fluid is used at the correct concentration so that it does not freeze. Snow should be cleared from the roofs and bonnets of vehicles to prevent this falling and obscuring the view from the vehicle when driving.”
Members of the public should avoid phoning the emergency services for traffic information or local authority information, as this simply adds to the volume of calls that control room staff are already dealing with as a result of bad weather.

Emergency services are working hard to keep everyone safe and would ask that all non-emergency callers be patient whilst they respond to emergencies.
Local authorities continue to deploy all available resources on the roads network to deal with the current severe weather.
Tayside’s Strategic Coordinating Group, comprising representatives from Tayside Police, Tayside Fire and Rescue, NHS Tayside, Scottish Ambulance Service, SEPA, and local authorities are monitoring the situation on a 24/7 basis.
