Rotarians take to the rink for South African visit

BRECHIN Rotary Club welcomed a party of South African university students to Forfar Ice Rink last Saturday.

The students, hand picked from the 16 South African Universities, had been visiting places of historical and cultural importance during their three-week stay in the UK.

The culmination of their trip was a four-day stay at the Burn House in Glenesk - the Angus venue that provides study and relaxation for over 4,500 youngsters annually.

The students, sponsored by the Abe Bailey Trust, were at the Burn with their leader John Gibbon under the supervision of the Burn House's Bursar Andy Middlemiss.

Their stay in Angus afforded them an opportunity to discover all about curling.

The enjoyable task of passing on the finer points of the Roaring Game fell to the Brechin Rotarians. During the subsequent fellowship, the South Africans treated their hosts to a feast of impromptu musical entertainment.

A Rotary spokesman aid: "It was a wonderful evening and our guests from South Africa were marvellous ambassadors for their country".
