Royal visitor to Glencadam
GLENCADAM Distillery will be given the Royal seal of approval today (Wednesday) when HRH Prince Andrew visits the plant in his role as a business envoy.
The Duke of York, who is on a fact-finding mission at various sites in and around Angus, has played a significant role in helping UK companies attract business and investment from across the globe.
Robert Fleming of Angus Dundee Distillers, owners of Glencadam Distillery, said they were delighted to be hosting the Prince's visit.
He said: "The Prince's capacity as a business envoy and our relationship with Angus Council had led to the visit.
"Our association with Angus Council mainly comes through our Chinese side of the business.
"We export to China and one of our representatives actually went over there a couple of months ago with representatives of Angus Council as part of a business delegation.
"The Prince's day job as a business envoy has led to him being brought to Glencadam.
"We have an office in China and it takes a long time to build up relationships there.
"However, we have made great progress and the company seems to be doing quite well over there.
"Through the visits one of our directors makes to China, and through Angus Council, we are working away at constantly enhancing and building on our business relationships out there and making very steady progress.
"The Prince is coming to see us for a tour of the buildings and I'm sure he will find Glencadam an interesting and welcoming environment.
"The Prince will also have the opportunity to meet members of the Hillman family, whose investment in Glencadam Distillery led to getting it back into production."
Provost Ruth Leslie Melville said that the value of the Chinese economy to businesses throughout Angus couldn't be underestimated.
"There is a tremendous enthusiasm for Angus in China. The Chinese are very keen to work with us and I put a great deal of the credit for that down to the very strong relationship that has been built up over the years by David Valentine of our economic development team.
"The team has worked extremely hard in building strong relationships in places like Beijing, Yangti and Shanghai.
"The most important thing with the Chinese is trust and relationships. They see it as very important they are respected and treated with dignity."
