Seeking votes in Scottish Youth Parliament elections
Douglas Johnston is standing for election for Angus North and Mearns in the Scottish Youth Parliament.
Brechin High School pupil Douglas Johnston hopes to be elected as a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament for Angus North and Mearns the up-and-coming elections.
Douglas is a keen musician who plays a variety of instruments and an occasional song writer - he has a self-written campaign song which is free to download from soundcloud.
He also regularly appears in a plays, pantos and gigs.
Explaining why he should be voted in Douglas said: “I’m a strong believer in getting everyone a fair say and would aim to get in touch and represent as many of the young people across Angus as possible.
“I already stand up strongly for what I believe in.
“I am an ambassador for the white ribbon campaign (which is an organisation run mostly by men, against men’s violence against women and other forms of domestic abuse), a member of my school’s pupil council and arrange and play at various gigs and plays in Angus and Dundee.
“As an MYSP candidate I’m going into this with fairly neutral political views so I can represent the young people who contact me with their views as much as possible and not just thrust my own views forward instead.
“But, I am heavily against discrimination of any sort. I already strongly fight against sexism, racism, homophobia etcetera.
“I may not be your choice of politician but I hope you will make the right choice and vote for whoever you think the best candidate is.”
Voting in Brechin will take place during the week beginning March 4 at Brechin High School, for all S1 - S6 pupils during their form classes.
For those aged 16 and over (and not in school) up to the age of 25 years you can vote on March 4 at the Damacre Centre between 5 and 6 p.m.
