Stracathro benefits from Dundee charity fun-run
STRACATHRO Hospital is several hundred pounds better off thanks to the efforts of two charity runners.
Audrey Judge and Alan Sykes from the Angus Community Health Partnership recently donned their running shoes and raised 520 for people living with chronic lung conditions in Angus.
The pair took part in the 10-mile Templeton Woods Race in Dundee to raise funds for patient support groups in Angus - with the cash split between groups at Stracathro and Arbroath Infirmary.
These groups are patient led and provide advice and support for people living with lung conditions such as bronchitis and emphysema. Members are also encouraged to exercise and take part in the Angus pulmonary rehabilitation programme.
Roving service
As part of the Angus community health partnership pulmonary rehabilitation team, Audrey and Alan are both involved in providing a roving pulmonary rehabilitation service for people living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
This is a term used to cover common lung diseases that block airways and make breathing difficult such as bronchitis and emphysema.
Many people may have this condition but don't know it, as symptoms include coughing, bringing up phlegm and getting short of breath. It is usually caused by smoking or exposure to fumes or very dusty places.
