Talented Brechiners raise cash for charity

TWO Brechin High School pupils have been busy over the past few months organising an event in an attempt to find the city's very own Susan Boyle and raise money for Diabetes UK at the same time.

Lori Ferries and Charlotte Yates have come up with the quirky idea of holding a talent show, "Brechin's Got Talent", inspired by the ITV show "Britain's Got Talent".

"We're raising money for Diabetes UK because we both have people in our families and friends at school who suffer from diabetes," explains Lori.

"We decided on a talent show because we thought it would be a good way to attract people's attention.

"We started with 15 acts when we first held auditions at school but five dropped out so now we've got ten, including singers, people playing instruments and a dance group. We're hoping lots of people from the school and the community will come and see them.

"We held auditions last year and since then we've had to organise posters and programmes for the show. On the night we'll just be helping out with selling tickets and things, adds Charlotte.

"I like all the acts. I don't know which will win because they are all really good!"

Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan are unfortunately unavailable so the girls have had to find alternative judges for the evening!

Mr Dempsey, Mrs Jackson and the head boy/girl team will be taking on the difficult task of deciding the winner.

Diabetes UK is the largest organisation in the UK working for people with diabetes, funding research, campaigning and helping people live with the condition.

There are currently over two and a half million people with diabetes in the UK and there are up to half a million people who have the condition and don't know it. The girls hope that the money raised from their event will help all those affected by diabetes.

"Brechin's Got Talent" is to be held this Friday at Brechin High School, starting at 7 pm.

Tickets will be sold on the door at 5 for adults and 1 for school-aged children.
