Tayside Police warn of weather complications
Tayside Police is urging the public to be aware of deteriorating weather conditions forecast for the region in the coming hours.
The heavy overnight rain has resulted in challenging driving conditions and drivers are asked to recognise that a number of roads across the region, rural roads in particular are badly affected by surface and standing water.
From Angus, there have been at least three reports of cars getting into difficulty as a result of drivers attempting to plough through deep water, causing engines to fail.
There is currently a road closure eastbound on the A92 Dundee to Arbroath road, in the Ethiebeaton area, due to flooding and drivers are encouraged to use an alternative route if possible.
A broken down lorry on the M90 between junctions 7 and 6 has also resulted in a lane closure on the northbound dual carriageway.
Emergency services and their partner agencies in Tayside are working closely together as they continue to monitor the situation and respond to issues in the area.
Localised flooding is being experienced in many parts of Angus in particular, including areas around Brechin, Wellbank, Emmock, Kellas, Gagie and Tealing as the rain stubbornly remains over the area.
Local authorities and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency are closely monitoring river levels with warning currently in place for the Isla at Alyth, the Esk at Bridge of Dun and the Lyon at Bridge of Balgie, as well as various points along the Earn.
The conditions are set to improve as the day advances but, in the meantime, drivers are asked to consider whether their journey is immediately necessary and, when out, to try to avoid the minor roads wherever possible.
Anyone who is travelling should allow plenty of time for their journey, reduce their speed and drive according to the conditions. This includes keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front and using dipped headlights where appropriate.
