Update on curriculum for excellence

An update on the progress being made to implement the Curriculum for Excellence in Angus schools was presented to members of the council’s Education Committee on Thursday, August 23.

The committee heard that Angus schools have made significant progress during the first two years of implementation of the new curriculum.

Committee convener Sheena Welsh commended school staff who have worked hard to ensure that new developments have been well understood by the entire school community.

She said: “Work is ongoing to embed new curriculum developments in day to day practice. Further developments and, in particular, developments relating to the introduction of the new SQA qualifications within the senior phase are being carefully planned across all schools.

“Angus schools are continuing to respond well to the training, resources, networking opportunities and practical advice provided by the education authority to support the full implementation of the new curriculum.

“Opportunities continue to be actively sought to seek the views and opinions of schools staff, pupils and parents about the curriculum.

“This strong partnership approach to the management and evaluation of change within the school curriculum will continue to be an integral feature of our commitment to improve outcomes for Angus children and young people.”

The committee noted that an Angus-wide progress report on the implementation of Curriculum for Excellence had been prepared and will be submitted to the Scottish Government.

Copies of the report are available on the council’s website at www.angus.gov.uk.
