Weir vice chair success
Angus MP Mike Weir has been re-elected as a vice-chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Oil and Gas industry at the AGM this week.
Mr Weir is the Scottish National Party’s Westminster spokesperson on Energy and has a keen interest in the subject from both a local and national perspective.
Commenting on his re-election, Mr Weir said: “I am very pleased to continue as a vice-chairman of the group which takes a close interest in the fortunes of the vital North Sea oil and gas industry.”
“The existing oil and gas industry is an important part of the Angus economy with many of my constituents working not only in the North Sea but now all over the world.
“There are also significant parts of the supply chain within the area, for example the GE facility in Montrose which is a world leader in refurbishing oil field equipment.”
“The industry also, however, has the potential to provide the skills needed to power the new offshore renewable industry.
“This is a vital key for the local economy with the prospect that offshore wind farms could bring significant business to Angus.”
