Work continues on community campus

Work continues to bring state of the art educational and recreational facilities to Brechin.

The Brechin Community Campus project will incorporate the replacement for Brechin High School, enhanced community leisure facilities, and a performance space and accommodation for adult learning and youth activities.

The new £24m facility is being developed in partnership with the East Central Territory hubco - which has been established to cover the Tayside, Fife and Central areas, and which the council can use to deliver community projects of this nature.

A meeting of the council’s Education Committee on Thursday, January 24, heard that hubco will submit proposals by the end of this month which will include proposals for the development of the site, and an outline concept design.

At this stage, the council will undertake further engagement with the local community during February to give residents the opportunity to comment on the emerging proposals.

Councillor Sheena Welsh, education spokesperson, said: “The community campus will provide modern, multi-functional and welcoming facilities, open to the whole Brechin community and purpose designed for use both during and out with the school day.

“As more detailed proposals for the site emerge, we will continue to seek the views of local people and work with them to produce detailed plans for the project.”

More information about the project is available at www.angus.gov.uk/brechincommunitycampus.
