Yes - it's another High School musical!
A GROUP of talented Brechin High School pupils have been working very hard over the past few months rehearsing for their upcoming show 'Not Another High School Musical', which takes to the stage in the City Hall from Thursday, March 18 until Saturday, March 20 (from 7.30 pm).
The cast, ranging from second to sixth year pupils, have got their work cut out this year as they decided to tackle not only singing and dancing but writing and learning a script as well!
The show is entirely organised by senior pupils who have been running weekly rehearsals during lunchtimes and after school since October, as well as having two day rehearsals during the holidays.
"We've had a busy year this year since we've not only had to learn songs and dances, but a script as well," explains Michael Jamieson, one of the senior pupils involved in organising the show.
"We're all very excited about performing this fun, home-made production."
The story follows new girl in town, Bonnie, played by Ysabeau Middleton, who has just moved to Brechin and is looking to make some friends.
However, her life is made difficult by the school mean girl Isla, played by Lori Ferries, and her trio of cackling cronies who are jealous of Bonnie when she lands the main part in the school show.
She's not alone for long though as she soon makes friends with the school geeks and catches the eye of the school heartthrob, Alistair, played by Michael Jamieson.
Along the way there are some laughs and some tears and, in typical 'High School Musical' fashion there's a happy ending!
This year the pupils have chosen 'The Teenage Cancer Trust' as their charity.
'The Teenage Cancer Trust' makes sure young cancer patients get the best possible care in hospital and the chance to do all the things that other teenagers do.
It funds specialist teenage cancer units in NHS hospitals and provides expert staffing and support for patients and their families throughout their cancer journey.
The trust relies entirely on fund-raising and, in donating the ticket proceeds from the show, the pupils hope that they will make a difference to the lives of young cancer sufferers.
"It's all being done for a good cause and we hope everyone will enjoy watching it as much as we have enjoyed rehearsing it," Michael adds..
Tickets are on sale now from Robson's Opticians, St. David Street, Brechin, and cost 6 for balcony and 5 for stalls.
There has been a fantastic turnout of people from the local community for the previous two shows and the cast of 'Not Another High School Musical' are hoping for the same response again this year.
As the school has the use of the City Hall all week for the show, the Parent Council will be holding a coffee morning on Saturday, March 20, in the lesser hall from 10 am to raise money for their funds.
